The North American Saddlery School (NASS) offers a comprehensive, structured training system designed to develop the essential skills required across the saddlery and fitting professions. Our education pathways combine traditional craftsmanship, modern fitting knowledge, and ongoing professional support to foster ethical, skilled practitioners.​ We provide training in:

Bridle Making Training System

​

Course 1 – Introduction to Saddle & Bridle Making Skills
An entry‑level course introducing foundational hand skills, materials, tools, and methods used in traditional saddlery.

​

Course 2 – Snaffle Bridle & Small Leatherwork
Students progress to making a modern snaffle bridle, along with related items such as headcollars, girths, running martingales, and other small bridlework pieces.

​

Course 3 – Double Bridle & Advanced Techniques
This advanced course covers the making of a double bridle, reins in various styles, bridle design features, and advanced construction and finishing techniques.

​

 

Saddle Making Training System

​

Course 1 – Introduction to Saddle & Bridle Making Skills
Establishes essential hand skills and understanding of materials and tools used in saddlery.

​

Course 2 – Saddle Construction: Tree to Seat
Students learn to build a saddle from the tree through to the seat, working with two trees and seats and exploring different girthing options.

​

Course 3 – Panels, Fit‑for‑Purpose Design & Assembly
Focuses on designing and making panels to suit horse shape and discipline, flap and girth design, and the final assembly of finished saddles.​

 

Mentorship & Professional Support

​

Our training system is supported by a structured mentorship program, offering guided instruction for both mentors and mentees. Students also gain access to a closed group chat, encouraging community connection, professional discussion, and continued learning with input from fellow students, instructors, and international professionals.

​

This collaborative approach supports skill development, confidence, and ethical practice throughout each stage of training.
