Course Objective
To enable fitters to complete their required Professional Development and to offer education in subjects that are related to, but not always considered part of the official syllabus for saddle fit. Open to any saddle fitter in the industry.

A comprehensive look at creating a saddle fitting team.
Day One - Practical Farriery with Matt Hillegas.

How shoeing alters gait and posture when feet are in different stages of wear.

How foot issues alter the back

How lameness in the foot and lower leg affects the horse

How this alters the back, carriage and the ability to support a saddle
-
How to develop relationships and create a team approach with your local farriers

Day Two - Practical Ways to Access Back Pain with Dr Elizabeth Davidson, specialist in problematic lameness & discomfort issues at Penn Vet New Bolton Center

Discussion of degrees of lameness, pain assessments with live horses

Discussion on current treatments and modalities

Working as a team with your consultant vet and vet center to include the saddle and girth fit as a source of pain

Day Three - Theoretical and Practical Explanation of Chiropractic & Acupuncture with Dr Maggie Loomer of PenMar Equine

Making sure the Vet, Chiro, & Acupuncturist are included in the team approach and understanding their role in healing

End of Course Topic - Addressing mental health and stress issues of working with horses & people.

This course is open to current saddle fitters, saddlery professionals and past attendees of the Intro to Saddle Fitting Course held here at NASS. This course is also open to professionals; bodyworkers both human and equine, therapists, veterinarians, etc.
