​Course Objective
The Saddle Making course consists of making two saddles. At this level most candidates will be able to make one saddle per session, results will vary depending on skill and competency
  • Saddle 1 - Any saddle on a rigid or spring tree
  • Saddle 2 - General Purpose (all purpose), Dressage or Jumping Saddle 17"

  • Edge stain & creasing
  • Pricking

  • Stitching
  • Punching
  • Finishing
  • Webbing up
  • Bellies
  • Seat
  • Panel

  • Professional work practices

Theory Requirements -
  • Names and use of all tools
  • Properties and characteristics of the materials used, and the fittings required
  • Names of all parts and their function
  • Reasons for each procedure
  • Explanation of design features
  • History of Saddlery

*Saddle Making Tools Required; we have tools for sharing & using in class. You do not have to have all the tools as this is an investment and gets pricey. We do have limited tools for sale however this is also a topic we learn about and discuss during class. Tools are a personal preference but saddlery also requires some specific tools.  This is always complicated and a learning process but the following items below are the start of your saddle making tool kit.
