Service Description

This course teaches & tests the candidates in saddlery skills needed to begin their training in English saddle and bridle making. It is a prerequisite for the NASS courses; Saddle Making Levels 2 & 3 or Bridle Making Levels 2 & 3. This course is ideal for those seeking Society of Master Saddle Fitting assessment and qualification, for anyone anyone wishing to learn a leatherworking and saddlery repair skills, or anyone wanted to start a career in saddlery making. Skills assignments have been developed in each area to allow candidates to learn and demonstrate their craft skills in the beginning areas. These include: selecting leather, measuring, cutting, edging, staining, rubbing up, stitching and hole punching at a basic level. You will be required to make a pair of stirrup leathers, an Irish martingale and a bridle headpiece, along with these skill practicing work projects to encourage progress of a belt, buckle guards and a needle case. This level is all done by hand using traditional methods of double handed stitching and hand cutting.
