Welcome to the North American Saddlery School

The North American Saddlery School (NASS) was founded in 2006 in response to conversations with riders and saddle fitters seeking unbiased, non‑sales‑based saddlery education. From the beginning, our mission has been shaped by the need for thoughtful, evidence‑informed instruction that prioritizes the horse, supports the rider, and upholds the integrity of the trade.

Our vision is to provide high‑level, research‑based education in saddlery, saddle fitting, and bridle fitting, empowering equine professionals to support clear communication between horse and rider through appropriate, well‑designed, and correctly fitted tack—allowing each partnership to reach its full potential.

Our Approach

NASS offers comprehensive training in:

  • Traditional saddle and bridle making

  • Saddlery repair and adjustment

  • Research‑based saddle and bridle fitting techniques

We work in alignment with the Society of Master Saddlers, bringing their standards and principles of saddle and bridle fitting education to North America. Instruction is delivered by an international faculty that includes Master Saddlers, Master Saddle Fitters, Qualified Bridle Fitters, and leading experts in equine anatomy, biomechanics, and veterinary science.

Our instructors are drawn from around the world to ensure students receive education grounded in both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary scientific understanding.

Who Our Programs Are For

Our courses are designed for a diverse range of students, including:

  • Saddlery businesses and independent saddlers

  • Apprentices and aspiring craftspeople

  • Saddle and bridle fitting trainees

  • Equestrian professionals seeking deeper technical knowledge

  • Students eager to enter the saddlery trade with strong ethical foundations

No prior saddlery experience is required, although familiarity with horses and equestrian equipment is beneficial.

Commitment to Welfare and Education

At the North American Saddlery School, we believe that correct saddle and bridle fitting plays a vital role in equine welfare and performance. Through rigorous education and hands‑on training, we aim to develop knowledgeable, responsible professionals equipped to make informed, ethical decisions in the best interest of each horse and rider.

Join us to build skill, deepen understanding, and contribute meaningfully to equine welfare through proper saddlery, saddle fitting, and bridle fitting education.
