Service Description
A saddle making, bridle making and leather working classes. This level teaches and tests the candidates in saddlery skills needed to begin their training in English bridle, saddle and leatherwork. It is a prerequisite for NASS courses; Saddle Making Levels 2 & 3, Bridle Making Levels 2 & 3. It is also recommended to those seeking those seeking Society of Master Saddle Fitting assessment and qualification. Projects, skills, tests and assignments have been developed in each area to allow candidates to learn their craft skills in the beginning areas of leatherwork. These include: selecting leather for projects, choosing and using leatherworking tools, measuring, cutting, edging, staining, rubbing up, stitching and hole punching projects at a basic level. Skill practicing projects include: a belt, buckle guards and a needle case. By the end of this class you will have made a pair of stirrup leathers, an Irish martingale and a bridle headpiece. These projects and skills will give you the ability to do basic repairs at home in your shop and competence to create all manner of saddlery pieces for your clients. This level is all done by hand.
